Comfort Systems USA MidAtlantic, LLC, a premier provider of HVAC, mechanical, and plumbing building systems, is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join our team. This role will support the Controller in directing and maintaining an accounting system that accurately reflects the financial position of our publicly traded subcontractor operations across Virginia and beyond.

Our state-of-the-art facilities in South Boston, VA, span over 62,600 square feet, housing offices, sheet metal fabrication, plumbing and piping fabrication, and warehousing.

What You'll Do:

Financial Support: Assist in managing daily accounting operations, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.

Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze financial reports, including job cost and percentage of completion reports.

Compliance & Controls: Support adherence to GAAP, company policies, and internal controls.

Account Reconciliation: Assist in maintaining general ledger accuracy and performing account reconciliations.

Cash Flow Oversight: Work closely with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing to ensure smooth financial operations.

Audit Preparation: Support external audits and assist in implementing process improvements.

Collaboration: Coordinate with the corporate accounting team and other departments to align financial strategies.

Process Enhancement: Identify and implement improvements in financial processes and reporting.
Who You Are:
-
Educational Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance (preferred).

Professional Experience: 3+ years in accounting, preferably in the construction or subcontracting industry.

Technical Skills: Knowledge of General Ledger, Job Cost, and Percentage of Completion Accounting (preferred).

Industry Experience: Experience with publicly traded companies is a plus.

Financial Expertise: Strong understanding of GAAP, budgeting, and cost control principles.

Software Proficiency: Familiarity with automated financial reporting systems, COINS experience preferred.

Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of federal and state financial regulations.

Detail-Oriented & Analytical: Ability to analyze financial data and prepare accurate reports and projections.

Strong Communicator: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.
