Refuse Truck Driver
This is full time, manual and semi-skilled work in the refuse collection division of Public Works with excellent benefits and a starting wage of $26.29/hour. Duties include operation of a packer truck following established routes and collections schedules.
Qualifications include:
Ability to work in all types of weather and effectively and safely perform all refuse collection activities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team to provide excellent service to community members
Sufficient strength to perform assigned tasks. Must be able to lift all refuse of all size and weight listed in City Ordinance into a refuse truck. Must be able to move a dumpster on wheels that could weigh over 1,000 lbs. with the assistance of another employee. Must be able to safely move furniture, carpet, mattresses, appliances, etc., with proper equipment by self to curb side.
Possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License class B with Air Brake endorsement and continued maintenance of the license throughout period of employment and must be insurable by the City’s insurance company.
Must reside within 30 air miles of Muscatine city limit within 6 months of hire date.
Must pass physical and drug screen following job offer.
Hiring Process
For civil service positions, applications are screened for minimum qualifications. Applicants meeting the criteria will be invited to participate in the civil service testing process.
