Position Summary:

This position selects test methods, provides training in the use of these methods, analyzes and reports data and conclusions, establishes laboratory test criteria and procedures associated with product development, evaluation, and qualification.  Preferably, the position is familiar with connector technology and testing which requires interfacing with both internal and external customers to discuss testing requirements and to communicate results and conclusions.  The selected candidate will interface closely with other laboratory personnel to verify that the proper methods and techniques are being followed, verify the quality of the data and to provide written reports of their work.The employee, by their own initiative, is expected to contribute toward continuous improvement of the lab.  The employee is to always consider customer satisfaction (whether internal or external customer) and maintaining integrity of the test data & analysis as their primary objectives.The employee is expected to become knowledgeable in applicable company-site-laboratory safety, administrative and quality policies/procedures.

This position is onsite in the Harrisburg, PA area.  Note that this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

General Tasks:

The following tasks are expected for all levels.  The number of tasks performed, proficiency at each task, and overall breadth of knowledge and responsibility are expected to increase with each grade level.

  1. Develops test plans to fulfill a test request
  2. Develops test methods/procedures/fixtures as needed to meet specific requests
  3. Performs sample preparation, measurements, and testing
  4. Analyzes, interprets, performs statistical analysis (as needed) and graphs/charts collected data
  5. Writes test reports to document and communicate test data, results, and conclusions
  6. Coordinates, through laboratory technicians, the completion of test requests
  7. Coordinates and performs (when necessary) failure analysis
  8. Communicates with customers to discuss test requirements and/or results
  9. Trains others in the use of appropriate test equipment
  10. Assists others in the design/development of new connectors, cable assemblies, equipment fixtures, or processes
  11. Recommends new equipment, training, or functions as appropriate
  12. Serves as a member of the laboratory team to improve the efficiency, quality, and reliability of the laboratory and its work
  13. Assists in the development of laboratory methods, procedures, and systems to improve laboratory productivity and when applicable to comply with ISO and other applicable requirements
  14. Maintains an awareness of new technology and competitor's technology via appropriate media (e.g. literature, patents, and trade shows)
  15. Performs other tasks at the request of Lab Management

Education/Qualifications:

Associate Engineer

  1. Bachelor's Degree in a technical Engineering discipline or an Associate's degree in a technical Engineering discipline and 3 years applicable experience, or 5+ years of current experience working in a test or quality test laboratory or product/process engineer with connector knowledge and dimensional/other measurement skills.
  2. Ability to communicate and write clearly
  3. Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.

Engineer

  1. All above items
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of electro/mechanical characteristics of connectors and cable assemblies
  3. Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, and chart test data
  4. Demonstrated ability to design test matrices as needed to fulfill requests by interpreting internal and external specifications and documents
  5. Demonstrated ability to develop test methods, procedures, and fixtures
  6. Demonstrated ability to train others in the use of applicable lab equipment
  7. Demonstrated communication skills for interfacing with customers, marketing, engineering, and manufacturing while understanding the technical and business needs of each organization

Sr. Engineer

  1. All above items
  2. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple test lab projects concurrently, pursue new projects and follow through to completion with minimal supervision
  3. Demonstrate ability to perform statistical analysis (e.g. R & R, probability plots)
  4. Demonstrate ability to create and present data presentations to external customers
  5. Demonstrated ability to lead and participate in formal and informal cross-functional teams - Departmental

 

It is expected that senior level engineers will have developed an area of expertise to be considered a technical expert. Some examples include: Electrical or Mechanical or Environmental testing, Contact Physics, Data Analysis, Current rating and other tests pertinent to Power connectors, testing and evaluation of terminations.
