POSITION SUMMARY:


 

Under the direction of the Fleet Manager, the mechanic will be responsible for numerous and varied routine and non-routine duties, involved in the overall care, maintenance, and general operation of all vehicles and equipment maintained by the Pala Fleet Department.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


 

  • Inspect vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately
  • Inspect vehicle computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and upgrade
  • Conduct routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts, etc.) aiming at vehicle functionality and longevity
  • Operate a Brake Lathe, Tire Changer, Tire Balancer, Alignment Machine, Car Lifts & other various shop equipment
  • Keep logs on work and issues
  • Maintain equipment and tools in good condition
  • Maintains an organized, clean, and safe work area
  • Follows shop policy, procedures, and safety rules
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Must have your own Tools and Toolbox

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, CERTIFICATIONS, AND ABILITIES:


 

  • Proven experience as a mechanic
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic components of vehicles
  • Knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems and methods
  • Ability to handle various hand and power tools
  • Ability to follow through on work assignments.
  • Ability to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do each task.
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical work with prolonged standing and walking for extended periods of time, stretching, bending, pushing, stooping, climbing, crouching, crawling, moving, lifting, and carrying loads weighing between 40-95 pounds.
  • Professional attitude and the ability to effectively communicate equipment issues.
  • Perform job duties in a way that promotes a positive image of the Pala Band of Mission Indians and the Pala Fleet Department.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


 

  • Applicant must be 18 years or older.
  • A minimum of 3 years of hands-on work experience as a mechanic.
  • Experience with GM’s, CAT equipment, and heavy equipment experience preferred.
  • Experience with welding and fabricating preferred.
  • Experience with Tech II Scan Tool and Snap-On Scan Tool preferred.
  • Must have a valid Class C license and clean driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a background check successfully.
  • Must acknowledge and agree to maintain a Drug-Free workplace (including marijuana) as a condition of employment with the Pala Band of Mission Indians. Must pass pre-employment and random drug testing during employment.
  • Indian preference will apply. The Pala Band of Mission Indians will give hiring preference to fully qualified applicants that are Pala Tribal Members.
