NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS). These are experienced professionals who provide technical and professional assistance to the Department of Agriculture for the Agriculture Conservation Experienced Services (ACES) Program.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 20 year(s) of experience in NRCS Engineering Management, Production and Policy Development. OR BA/BS Degree in Agricultural or Civil Engineering

  • Professional Engineering License.
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
  • NRCS Software: SITES, EFM2
Duties:

Assist NRCS State office in areas of conservation engineering, watershed practices and training.

  • Consultation: Provide consultation and advice to the SCE and other leadership positions in matters related to conservation engineering and watersheds.   20%
  • Policy Development: Assist the SCE with development of policies required of the SCE related to the following: National Engineering Manual, Emergency Watershed Protection Program, Environmental Quality Incentive Program Policy, Watershed Program.   25%
  • Training: Provide training including but not limited to the following areas: Engineering Policies, Engineering References, Development of Conservation Practice Standards, Engineering Software, Hydrology, Hydraulics, Irrigation Water Management, and Animal Waste Management.   20%
  • Watershed Planning, Design, and Installation. Assist with the development and review of Watershed Plans, Environmental Assessments, and other documents related to watershed planning. The incumbent will provide quality assurance reviews of watershed designs.   20%
  • Quality Assurance: Provide quality assurance reviews of submitted proposals and procedures. Work with other engineering staff to provide insight into obstacles which must be overcome to implement engineering procedures. Provide reviews of designs and plans submitted by engineering contractors, field engineers, or technical service providers.   15%

Other:
  • annual information system security, anti-harassment, and civil rights training.
  • Operational training for new programs and national level policies.
  • Travel Requirements: occasional travel to satisfy the duties of the position. Site visits, field office visits, use of GOV, meet with customers in the field.
  • Overnight travel: May require occasional travel up to 4 nights per year.
