Production Planner

Job Summary:

The Production Planner role is an integral part of the Supply Chain with the purpose of executing the planning process for loading and managing top, second, and third level system work orders to support the production schedule. This position modifies work orders upon receipt of customer configuration changes, communicates changes to the production floor in a timely manner, and expedites purchased parts as well as sub-assemblies to minimize impact to the ship schedule. This role will have accountability for coordinating supply and material deliveries.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop a production planning schedule.
  • Evaluate schedule results and coordinate cross-functionally to reconcile variances, resolve potential schedule interruptions, and refine schedules.
  • Plan, schedule, release and control production orders based on MRP requirements.
  • Provides production departments with production schedules based on requirements generated by forecasts, minimum balances, and customer orders.
  • Build weekly production and maintenance schedules to ensure delivery against the Sales Operation & Planning production volumes while completing necessary preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Monitor product inventories at the plant and off-site warehouses and alter production schedules to deliver expected service levels.
  • Prepares schedule to establish release dates of shop orders following sequence and lead times of each product to meet shipping dates based on sales forecasts and customer orders.
  • Reviews production schedules and related information and confers with department supervisors to determine material requirements, identify overdue material, and track material.
  • Confers with department supervisors to determine the status of expedites on shop order releases, production schedules, and work in process and informs Master Scheduler of proposed shipping dates.
  • Expedites operations that delay schedules and alter schedules to meet unforeseen conditions.
  • Use, update, and maintain production planning software.
  • Assist in other duties as required.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Supply Chain, or related field required.
  • Minimum three years professional experience. 
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Experience working in ERP/MRP system(s) preferred.
