NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the National Park Service (NPS). These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP).

Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an ?at-will? relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.

PLEASE NOTE: An ?Enrollee? is not a federal employee, nor an employee of NEW Solutions. An ?Enrollee? is a participant in a grant program established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the agency and administered by NEW Solutions.

Qualifications:

BA/BS Degree in history, historic preservation, or related with minimum additional experience of 5 year(s)

  • Working with resources manager, provide introductory training for park interpretive staff to support education efforts that promote public awareness of historic preservation. Assist park staff with documenting historic structures in Seattle related to the Klondike Gold Rush. Such documentation may include condition assessments, building histories, and/ or historic structures reports. Working with park staff and community partners, support drafting updated and new nominations to the National Register.
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Teams, MS Outlook, MS SharePoint
Duties:

Enrollee will work closely with park resources management staff to advise development of park-led, community-supported historic preservation program for Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park ? Seattle Unit.

  • Provide introductory training for park interpretive staff to support education efforts that promote public awareness of historic preservation   40%
  • Document historic structures in Seattle related to the Klondike Gold Rush, which may include condition assessments, building histories, historic structures reports   30%
  • Working with park staff and community partners, support drafting updated and new nominations to the National Register    30%

Other:
  • Overnight travel: Position must make a minimum of one site visit to Pioneer Square Seattle to conduct reviews of historic structures being documented if person in this position does not reside and work in the Seattle area.
  • Physical requirements: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position. Position must be able to conduct tasks related to site visits of historic structures in Pioneer Square that are not ADA compliant, such as using stairs to access multiple floors without an elevator, or walking on uneven cobble and brick surfaces in subterranean environments.
