Safety Compliance Specialist
Summary
Under general supervision, the Compliance Specialist is responsible to support the safety department in complying with company and Department of Transportation (DOT) safety policies and regulations by maintaining DOT files, ensuring driver compliance and providing compliance support for the department and operations group to ensure our drivers are in compliance with all Federal and State law requirements.
Education and Experience
- Must have basic understanding of general office procedures. Knowledge of DOT laws and regulations or transportation related operations functions preferred.
- Must have excellent phone etiquette, general clerical and organizational skills.
- Must have the ability to operate basic office machines include telephone, 10-key, and personal computer.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required.
- Excellent communication skills (written, listening and verbal).
- Must be self-motivated, able to multi-task, and work in a fast paced, professional environment.
- Must be a detailed, highly organized, and safety-oriented team player.
- Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate DOT physicals and assist with drug and alcohol testing by scheduling, communicating results, and educating drivers and operations on DOT and company requirements.
- Receive and post all drug and alcohol test results.
a. Notify appropriate team of positive results and prepare and distribute Substance Abuse Professional paperwork.
b. Run Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearing house queries when drivers transfer between divisions.
- Maintain and update network of clinics in LME periodically making calls to confirm hours, processes hasn’t changed and they still are a collection site.
- Counsel drivers on preparation for successful physical renewals.
- Educate drivers on common health issues.
- Share tips on making healthy choices while on the road.
- Submit all driver DOT physicals to their licensed state in accordance with FMCSA regulations.
a. Ensure Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) is updated within 15 days of a physical and contacts the states to rectify any update issues.
- Work closely with our Third Party Administrator and other vendors via phone and email.
- Assign drivers Annual In-Person training classes and record completion in LME.
- Process tractor annual inspections by inputting information into LME and updating for next inspection, and images documents into driver files.
- Provide backup for Compliance department (except e-logs) by answering phones and performing administrative and clerical duties so department needs are met in a timely manner.
- Understands and consistently performs in accordance with ATS Mission, Vision, and Values.

- Complete work responsibilities outside of normal business hours as needed and infrequent travel may be required.
- Performs other duties, tasks, or responsibilities as requested by management.

Compensation & Benefits:
- The anticipated hourly pay range for this position is between $21.00 - $26.00. Hourly pay rate offered is determined by relevant experience, education, certifications, and geographic location as compared to others doing substantially similar work . In addition to the hourly rate of pay, employees may be eligible for performance-based incentives, which can vary depending on individual and/or company performance.
