Managing Director - Operations

Our clients have created a new position: Managing Director – Operations for a Single-Family Office in the Newport Beach/Irvine, CA area. The principal, family, and the Family Office Board have determined this is the right time to create a Single-Family Office to serve G1, G2, and future generations, which will be separate from the family’s two operating companies. A physical office is currently being built out to house this new Family Office. Note that this is an in-office role.

This role will co-lead the Family Office with the  Managing Director - Finance, also being hired, and reporting directly to the G1 principal and the Family Office Board. The ideal candidate is considered an expert at strategy, and is a wise, thoughtful, and highly intelligent individual whose education, career, and life experience has prepared them for this role.

Ideally, this person lives within commuting distance of Irvine. Our client is prepared to offer a national relocation package for the right person.

 Ideal start date is end of Q4 2025 or January 3, 2026.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • A sterling pedigree in both education and employment with a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience, ideally working in or with family offices.
  • Advanced degree (MBA, JD) preferred.
  • Emotionally intelligent, highly skilled communicator, facilitator and leader with an executive skillset.
  • Solid experience with strategic planning, wealth management, trust and estate planning, risk management, and hands-on executive leadership and team building.
  • Disciplined and process oriented, strong organizational skills, strong project management, and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Solution-oriented with a high sense of urgency; strong analytical skills and the ability to provide counsel, guidance, and education to the principal and family; able to distill complex concepts to promote well-informed, sound decision making.
  • Long-term intent.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Co-lead the Family Office to execute the Family Office strategic vision, goals of and business plan in alignment with the family’s objectives.
  • Provide vision, direction, and leadership across the organization; provide high quality, accurate and timely deliverables, analytical insight and perspective; and build a culture based on accountability, integrity and excellence.
  • Oversee and ensure adherence to governance as developed by the family; ensure authority levels are adhered to, decision-making guidelines are followed, proper input is obtained, all while maintaining a high level of communication with the family and Board.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to all stakeholders; bring new ideas and best practices to the family office through networking, benchmarking, and continuing education.
  • Co-lead the execution of all family office services, with specific responsibilities  to include investment oversight, tax/trust/estate planning, risk management, philanthropy, family education, and family services coordination (including security, aviation, maritime, art, auto collection, and real estate in multiple states/countries).

Compensation:

  • An all-encompassing compensation package including a base salary and performance-based incentives may range from $900k - $1.2m annually.
