We seek a dynamic and experienced leader to join our team at our assisted living community in Hawthorne, NJ. Overall responsibility for maintaining the building, grounds and physical plant, cleanliness of guest rooms, public space, recreation areas, and laundry. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience managing maintenance and environmental services departments in a healthcare or assisted living environment. Other service-oriented sectors will be considered as well. A critical eye for details and a strong work ethic to improve workflow and exceed expectations are essential. Must be computer proficient, including experience with maintenance management software, a baseline knowledge of Wi-Fi/networking equipment, and the ability to utilize digital tools for scheduling, reporting, and inventory management.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and manage the maintenance and environmental services teams, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment. Provide guidance, training, and support to ensure high standards of service and performance. Recruit, hire, train and schedule staff. Prepare weekly payroll hours and submit to Payroll in a timely manner.
- Perform regular inspections and ensure fulfillment of daily activities and project assignments, both inside and outside the building.
- Oversee all aspects of facility maintenance, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and general repairs. Ensure timely and effective resolution of maintenance issues to maintain a safe and comfortable living environment for residents.
- Maintains the exterior and interior of the buildings and grounds in all seasons. Provides 24-hour coverage for the hot water heater, HVAC systems, and facility mechanical equipment. Develop and maintain a Preventative Maintenance Program. Purchase equipment and supplies as necessary or required.
- Conduct all fire and disaster drills as required by state and company policy. Maintains telecommunications systems and acts as the primary contact for service and maintenance. Responsible for the maintenance of all Van Dyk properties including rental houses, corporate office, and main campus building.
- Manage the daily operations of housekeeping and laundry including assigning and reviewing the work of employees engaged in cleaning resident rooms, common areas, and receiving, washing, ironing, and delivering laundry to various departments – in addition to keeping the entire campus presentable as if you’re caring for your own home. Perform regular supply inventory and ordering necessary supplies.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- 2-year degree from an accredited university in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or related major preferred.
- At least 5 years’ experience in managing plant operations, preferably in assisted living or healthcare. Technical certifications or qualifications in HVAC, Electrical or Plumbing preferred. Proven experience in mechanical systems such as electrical panels, HVAC systems, Boilers, Generators, and other heating/cooling systems troubleshooting and repair.
- Must be computer proficient, including experience with maintenance management software and the ability to utilize digital tools for work order processing, scheduling, reporting, and inventory management.
- Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to train and develop staff.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
