Design Engineer – Electrical

 

Job Summary:  

The Design Engineer, Electrical will develop enclosure solutions that produce the required performance and features to provide greater value for our customers. This position will require decision-making that is primarily job-centered and will require close collaboration with others involved in the process. The Design Engineer, Electrical will manage multiple projects. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 

 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Execute projects from concept through to launch.  

  • Analyzes product design data to determine conformance to established design selection criteria, use of standardized parts and equipment, and design-to-cost practices. 

  • Maintain and upgrade existing products. 

  • Assist with 3rd party certifications. 

  • Develop and test prototypes for new product ideas and create product specifications. 

  • Create and maintain project development plans and create and execute Engineering Change Notices (ECNs). 

  • Lead cross-functional teams to design, develop, test, and redesign existing products. 

  • Design detailed wiring diagrams, wire harnesses, and site integrate diagrams. 

  • Lead the identification, evaluation, and onboarding of new suppliers and components to optimize product cost, function and lead times. 

  • Drive the creation and revision of FMEA for electrical components, sub-systems, and systems. 

  • Support the development of and update to design guidelines, datasheets, and templates for electrical systems. 

  • Identify non-conformances and root causes to initiate and implement solutions. 

  • Troubleshooting equipment malfunctions. 

  • Assist in other duties as required.

Education and Experience: 

  • A bachelor's degree, preferably in Electrical Engineering or Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology is required.  

  • A master's in electrical engineering is preferred. 

  • At least 5 years of experience working with plastics manufacturing (injection, structural foam) is required. 

  • CREO/Windchill experience is desired, experience with another 3D CAD system (SW or other) is required. 

  • Experience with PLC and/or SCADA controller desirable, including communication and security aspects. 

  • Familiarity with AC Panels & distribution, AC to DC rectifiers, DC converters, and Battery systems. 

  • Knowledge of MS Project and Visio and of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). 

  • Familiarity with industry standards such as Telcordia Specification, IEEE, NEC, UL, a plus.
