Animal Welfare Part-Time Kennel Technician

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, assists with the cleanliness of the shelter and the care and upkeep of the animals housed therein.  May assist public with routine inquiries.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Cleans common areas, cages, and kennels on a regular basis
  • Supplies food, water, and personal care to detained animals
  • Provides other animal needs as directed by shelter staff
  • Takes phone messages and answers general questions
  • Assists with grounds keeping needs such as trash removal, weeding, etc.
  • Assists with stocking general supplies such as food, litter, etc.
  • Assists guests with general inquiries and viewing of detained animals
  • Assists other employees with general departmental functions
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including assisting other departments as required.

Minimum Qualifications & Required Knowledge:

  • High school graduate or GED
  • Valid Class "D" Oklahoma Driver's license
  • One to two years of experience handling animals
  • Knowledge of City policy and procedures
  • Knowledge of shelter regulations and guidelines
  • Skill in the capture and transport of animals
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations
  • Ability to perform light maintenance
