Tooling Engineer
Position: Tooling Engineer
Location: Nashua, NH
Amphenol High Speed Products Group is the market leader for high speed, high bandwidth electrical connectors for the Telecom/Datacom market (Mobile Networks, Storage, Servers, Routers, Switches, etc.). Our products help to enable the electronics revolution and remain a key enabler for all the major Tier 1 OEMs globally. Our global headquarters are in Nashua, NH and we have design, sales, and manufacturing locations globally. We are currently seeking a Tooling Engineer to join our team. The position will be in Nashua, NH. The Tooling Engineer will be an integral part of a team responsible for new product development. The Tooling Engineer will work closely with internal and external suppliers and manufacturers, supporting the development, fabrication and building of prototypes, pilot production and deployment of high-volume factory automation.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and document assembly tooling for new / existing products. Involves creating concepts, estimating, writing scope of work, quoting, design build and validation of tooling.
- Develop and document assembly processes, spare parts lists, and preventative maintenance plan.
- Define the process steps and sequence of operations, material handling, process control needs and the preliminary process layout.
- Prepare equipment and systems specifications, scope of work.
- Work with the product development team to explore and develop enabling technologies.
- Work with project team to define the supply chain from raw material to customer application.
- Work with team IEs to formulate the process step cycle times, efficiencies, yields and step relationships to include dynamic modeling as required for process and line balance assumptions. (Arrangement, Rates, Balance, Yield, Utility, Capacity)
- Work with team on Product/Process DFMs, FMEAs and risk assessment activities.
- Work with the product team to define critical product/process parameters relating to product documentation (nominals and tolerances) and how they are related to process functions.
- Evaluate Safety and Occupational health summary for processes.
- Provide cost and operational criteria via internal and external resources for the justification and acquisition of major tooling.
- Propose and implement cost reduction activities for mature assembly processes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from a four-year university. Robotics and Controls minors or degrees are a plus.
- Should have knowledge and skills using:
- Proficient with solid modeling tools, (Creo, SolidWorks, etc.)
- Must have experience with automation, PLCs, Machine Vision, and electrical controls
- Project Management Experience
- Spreadsheet software (Excel)
- Word Processing software (Word)
- Presentation software (PowerPoint)
- Ability to communicate with technical & non-technical people
- Basic Knowledge with the following processes is a plus:
- Progressive stamping and Lead-frame Slugout
- Injection molding and Insert molding, Lead-frame Over-molding
- Small component handling and assembly
- Terminal plating
- New product development
- Ability to work in team environment
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical drawings
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to operate with minimal supervision and provide updates on project status where issues or problems can be reviewed, discussed, and resolved.
