Communication Technician, Saskatchewan

Description:
The Technician is responsible for the installation of structured cabling, coaxial cabling, wireless access points, network hardware, telephony systems, inside and outside plant fiber optic splicing, terminating and testing.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Install, remove, maintain and repair aerial and underground telephone, coaxial and fibre optic cable television, and other telecommunication transmission and distribution lines, cables and associated hardware
- Splice and repair various types and sizes of telephone and other telecommunication cables including single line, coaxial and fibre optic
- Repair or replace faulty cables, power supplies, amplifiers or other associated transmission and distribution equipment
- Inspect, monitor, test and adjust telecommunication transmission lines and cables and distribution systems
- Analize and record test results
- Correct cable problems as indicated by supervisor.
- Ensure removal of abandoned cable and clean-up of work sites.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Requires significant time doing manual labour tasks and sometimes working in tight spaces.
- Ability to climb and work at elevations (e. g. from ladders, Aerial lift trucks).
- Working knowledge of hand and power tools.
- Ability to perform physical activities including, but not limited to: lifting objects weighing over 50 pounds.
- Ability to perform job activities outdoors in different weather conditions (e. g. cold and/or heat, inclement weather).
- Wear appropriate safety apparel and follow all established safety practices and procedures.
- Be adaptable to industrial work site settings for daily safety requirements.
- Ability to work respectfully with others and to work independently.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to travel for extended periods of time and work flexible hours with the understanding that workdays can be in excess of normal hours and some weekend work may be required.
- Must be comfortable working rotational shifts and staying in onsite camp accommodations.
- Must be able to pass Fit for duty, Drug and Alcohol testing.

Experience Required:
- 2+ years of experience.
- Technical training considered an asset.
- Previous telecommunications experience and testing for improved experience.
