Quality Engineer I

The Quality Engineer I position is responsible for helping plan, coordinate, and implement process controls designed to ensure quality control and quality assurance through all levels of the organization. Provides direct assessments of operations and opportunities for performance improvements through internal quality assessments. Helps to resolve quality issues, taking appropriate corrective actions, when necessary, by implementing performance improvements, through integration of policies and systems.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Working directly with customer drawings, PO’s, specifications, quality systems flow downs, (e.g., pack and ship sheets), supplier quality requirements (SQR’s), and customer websites or portals.
  • Supports the preparation and review of quality documentation and deliverables for fulfilling technical requirements for final product delivery.
  • Maintains communications with Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Finance, Quoting, Customers and Suppliers on quality related issues. Communication and interpersonal skills required to Interface with personnel at various technical and managerial levels, helping to identify quality issues and collaboratively pursue solutions.
  • Recommend, develop, implement and maintain quality assurance systems, methods and procedures.
  • Review engineering documentation, process specifications, manufacturing methods, contractual requirements and testing procedures to identify compliance with QA requirements.
  • Use root cause analysis tools and techniques, issue appropriate documentation, coordinate corrective action, and follow-up to assure effective solutions of problems.
  • Creates a teamwork environment while working with cognizant personnel to identify and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop process improvement efforts using a data driven approach, (e.g., apply SPC, statistical process control) methods for analyzing data to evaluate current state and/or the need for changes. Using these analytical techniques to develop and implement technical surveillance systems and sampling plans to; identify trends adverse to quality. 
  • Coordinate and integrate multi-disciplined teams to address quality issues and continual improvement efforts.
  • Communicate changes in QA policies and systems and develop and conduct education and training programs.
  • Helps to coordinate Material Review Board activities and support programs, preparing periodic status reports reflecting progress of quality programs and initiatives.
  • Perform product, process, and systems audits as required.
  • Evaluate processes and material changes to existing products to assure compliance with internal, industry, and customer requirements.
  • Take lead role in problem resolution of customer audit actions, CA's, returns, and other customer requests as appropriate.
  • Responsible for product disposition, waivers, qualification builds, and deviation requests
  • Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.          

 

Requirements:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or two-to-three-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferably in manufacturing and/or engineering of Printed Circuit Boards.
  • Experience in PC Assembly, familiarity with J-STD-001 & IPC-A-610.
  • Must have excellent communication skills (external communication with customers/suppliers) and ability/flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment at a technical level.
  • Computer skills: Proficient with internet use- required for data management and presentations.
  • Understanding of PCB military and industry specifications preferred.
  • Knowledge of Process Control techniques a plus.
