Qualifications:

Minimum of 30 year(s) of experience in Geology/Hydrology OR MA/MS Degree in Geology/Hydrology OR Previously completed training in FSP and Web-tools

Duties:

The candidate will serve as a senior hydrogeologist developing public-facing web content and providing technical guidance on groundwater systems across Hawaii and the US Affiliated Pacific Islands (USAPI). This position combines mentoring junior staff in Pacific island hydrogeology with stakeholder coordination and technical review responsibilities to ensure adherence to fundamental science practices. This groundwater monitoring specialist position is designed to strengthen the Pacific Island Water Science Center's capacity for freshwater lens characterization and protection in tropical island environments. The role addresses critical water security challenges unique to island communities, where freshwater resources exist as thin lenses floating above saltwater in highly permeable coral and volcanic aquifers. Understanding of Drupel and developing / maintaining web based content.

  • Task 1. Mentoring and Staff Development - The candidate will mentor junior staff in Pacific island hydrogeology principles and fundamental science practices (FSP), providing guidance to the Field Hydrology branch of Studies Sections on FSP implementation. This includes training staff on Hawaiian volcanic aquifer systems and USAPI atoll environments while developing technical competencies in web content development across the region and ensuring FSP compliance in all mentoring and training activities.   35%
  • Task 2. Public Web Content Development and Analysis - The candidate will develop and maintain public-facing web content for Hawaiian volcanic aquifers and USAPI island systems, creating interactive web resources on freshwater lens dynamics.   40%
  • Task 3. Stakeholder Advisory and Technical Review - The candidate will coordinate with Center staff while reviewing data releases, scientific reports, and groundwater studies for FSP compliance. This role includes presenting findings at scientific conferences, developing standardized regional procedures incorporating FSP, and ensuring technical reviews adhere to fundamental science practices standards.   25%
