Medical Laboratory Technician

Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, the Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing routine medical laboratory tests and providing high-quality results for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

  • Demonstrates, through behavior, Center for Primary Care’s Mission Statement.
  • Assist with maintenance of all reimbursement to remain current.
  • Promotes positive public relations towards patients, visitors, families, physicians, and others. Exhibits characteristics consistent with CPC values for quality, teamwork, and pride.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines.
  • Follows CPC guidelines, infection prevention practices, demonstrates appropriate use of PPE, performs hand washing according to policy, and follows safety and workplace incident procedures.
  • Performs instrument calibrations as required by the manufacturer, or as needed.
  • Performs quality control and maintenance as scheduled. Reports control values that are out of range to his/her supervisor.
  • Maintains and operates all laboratory equipment.
  • Effectively communicates test results to CPC providers regarding their patients. Communicates unusual cases to his/her manager.
  • Maintains a current level of knowledge of laboratory theory by reviewing technical journals and by attending seminars and workshops.
  • Accurately performs venipuncture, capillary sticks, and collection of specimens according to laboratory guidelines.
  • Documents and reports lab results appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Knows and observes policies set by OSHA and CLIA.
  • Orders lab supplies, cleans, and stocks work area.
  • Knows criteria for specimen acceptance, maintains accurate specimen logs and records, prepares and transmits reports clearly and completely.
  • Physical appearance and conduct are consistent with acceptable professional ethics and CPC standards.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications for Success:

Education, License/Certification, and Experience Requirements

 

Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Associates degree from an accredited Medical / Clinical Laboratory Technologist program. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited Medical / Clinical Laboratory Technologist program preferred.

 

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

One of the following:

• American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)

• American Medical Technologist (AMT)

 

Experience: Minimum 1+ years of experience as a Medical / Clinical Laboratory Technologist. 2+ years of experience as a Medical / Clinical Laboratory Technologist preferred.

  • Knowledgeable of electronic medical record system and Laboratory Information Systems.
  • Ability to identify emergent medical situations.
  • Ability to effectively function in a fast-paced, time-sensitive work environment.
  • Capable of managing several tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Compensation: Market competitive base pay, commensurate with education and experience.
